L’Oréal India made next step in gender equality at the workplace and received EDGE MOVE certification.
Mumbai, India/Geneva, Switzerland – June 06 2017 –
L’Oréal India received MOVE level of EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality) Certification. The EDGE assessment is the leading business certification for gender equality in the workplace that is universally applicable across industries and countries.
In July 2015 L’Oréal became the first company in India to be certified with the EDGE Gender Equality Certification (EDGE MOVE level) and L’Oréal India is the only FMCG company in India to be certified by EDGE to the second level of certification. This certificate recognizes company’s leadership and commitment to create, benchmark, and support gender equity throughout the workplace. Two years after L’Oréal India’s first certification, it has demonstrated an inclusive culture in terms of employees’ ratings in terms of career development opportunities, reached the EDGE Standard in new areas, and improved the framework of effective policies and practices in terms of recruitment and promotion, leadership development training and mentoring and flexible working.
This level means that the company has already achieved certain milestones pertaining to strong gender balance across the talent pipeline, effectively implementing gender equality policies and practices, and fostering an inclusive workplace culture as revealed by the high engagement levels of both the male and female employees. It commits to improving its action plan for even greater impact.
“For L’Oréal, gender diversity at the workplace is a business imperative and we are incredibly proud to be certified for the second time by EDGE.” said Roshni Wadhwa, Human Resource Director, L’Oréal India “Achieving workforce gender equality is not just a cultural benefit but also gives us a competitive edge in driving innovation and attracting talent. We are honored to receive this recognition and strive to be the role model in building a culture of equal leadership.”
Within the last 6 months, L’Oréal India has been participating in EDGE’s recertification process, which includes a comprehensive review of the company’s gender policies and practices and a deep analysis of gender data across the entire Indian workforce of over 1,600 employees. As part of the evaluation, L’Oréal surveyed approximately 45% of employees on gender equality as it pertains to recruitment and promotion, leadership training and mentorship, flexible work, company culture and equal pay for equivalent work. The EDGE Certification was granted to L’Oréal India after an independent verification of the findings by a third-party auditor.
«Over the last 2 years, great strides have continued to be made to close the gender gap across L’Oréal India’s talent pipeline. L’Oréal India has once again achieved the second level of certification – EDGE Move – which not only recognizes the organizations commitment to closing the gender gap, but that a robust framework of effective policies and practices is in place, enhancing the inclusive culture of the workplace. It has reinforced and strengthened the holistic approach to workforce gender equality by improving the effectiveness of its promotion processes and criteria, mentoring programmes, and commitment of senior management to flexible working and is actively working towards building a gender-balanced talent pool at all levels of responsibility in the organization. We applaud L’Oréal India for their EDGE Re-Certification. L’Oréal has once more demonstrated true leadership amongst its industry peers. Its people-centered culture and diversity of the teams is one of their recognized success factors. This re-certification, at the EDGE Move level, reaffirms L’Oréal India’s position as an employer of choice. Seven global entities at L’Oréal are EDGE Certified – Australia, Brazil, Canada, The Philippines, India and USA», – stated Aniela Unguresan, co-founder, EDGE Certified Foundation.
As a result of the re-certification, L’Oréal India created a customized roadmap towards continued progress in gender equality, which includes a broader adoption of flexible work arrangements and continued leadership development training and mentoring across both genders.
