L’Oréal Philippines makes a concerted effort to hire men to enhance gender representation.

L’Oréal Philippines, part of the world’s leading beauty company L’Oréal, has obtained EDGE Assess certification renewing its commitment to workplace gender equity.

EDGE is the leading global assessment and business certification for gender and intersectional equity. EDGE Assess is the first level of certification where the organization recognizes its commitment to workplace gender equity. The certification process involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organization’s culture. As an integral part of the assessment, employees receive a comprehensive survey to assess perceptions of career development opportunities in the workplace.

L’Oréal Philippines has been on the path to attaining workplace gender equity and first gained certification at the EDGE Assess level in 2015. In the areas of flexible working and culture, the organization has shown an improved framework of policies and practices to ensure equitable career flows. The organization is systematically encouraging men to use the paternity leave that is available to them and has also demonstrated improved retention rates for women returning from maternity leave. L’Oréal Philippines has also strengthened top management’s commitment to achieving gender equity.

Employee perceptions of equal pay for equivalent work and equal opportunities for both genders in the organization’s hiring process have improved for both men and women. L’Oréal Philippines has traditionally had more women than men representing the company, but this is shifting as the company makes a concerted effort to hire men to enhance gender representation. Men are now more likely to be hired in three out of five levels of responsibility, despite being traditionally underrepresented in the company.

Aniela Unguresan, Founder of EDGE Certified Foundation, says the recertification at EDGE Assess level recognizes L’Oréal Philippines’ continuous commitment to improving gender equity in the workplace: “It is remarkable to see multiple L’Oréal entities obtaining certifications at various levels,” she explains.

“With improved policies and practices ensuring equitable career flows in the areas of flexible working and organizational culture, increasing representation of men, and having no risks associated with gender pay equity, L’Oréal Philippines has demonstrated its strong commitment in its journey to achieve gender equity in the workplace.”

L’Oréal Philippines is one of the eight L’Oréal entities that are currently certified along with Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, India, Canada, Russia (ZAO L’Oréal) and USA.
