The organization has improved gender representation across the workforce and strengthened its framework of policies and practices in line with its previous EDGE action plan.

Regional SAB de CV, holding company for Banregio Grupo Financiero SAB de CV, has recertified with EDGE Assess, the first level of EDGE certification, which recognizes the organization’s commitment toward workplace gender equity.

Regional, since its last assessment, has improved gender representation across the workforce and strengthened its framework of policies and practices in line with its previous EDGE action plan. EDGE is the leading global assessment and business certification for gender and intersectional equity.

The certification process involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organization’s culture. As an integral part of the assessment, statistical data is analysed, policies and practices are reviewed, and employees receive a comprehensive survey to assess perceptions of career development opportunities in the workplace.

Regional has demonstrated progress in four areas of its policies and practices framework: equivalent pay for equivalent work, recruitment and promotion, flexible working, and organizational culture.

Moreover, since the last certification, employees’ perceptions regarding career development opportunities have improved.

These results are also reflected in the increase in representation of women along the pipeline, especially in profit and loss roles.

Regional currently fosters transparency in employees’ familiarity with the promotion process and
criteria, as part of its previous EDGE action plan, positively enhancing employee perceptions where
more than 50% believe that men and women are given equal opportunity to be employed and promoted and they would strongly recommend working with Regional to a male or female friend or colleague.

Alejandra Rivero, Regional’s Sustainability and Social Responsibility Director commented: “EDGE has guided and allowed us to have a clear vision of where we stand, what is needed and where we should move in order to achieve gender equality within Regional. We still face big challenges during the next two years while implementing our action plan but I’m excited to see that each step takes us further towards improving conditions for women and our communities.”

Regional, as part of its EDGE action plan, considers conducting gender pay gap assessments by using a regression analysis. They also consider extending their formal mentoring programme for all employees and to evaluate the effectiveness of such in terms of promotion rates of male and female mentees.

Aniela Unguresan, Founder of EDGE Certified Foundation, says: “Since its first EDGE Assess certification in 2019, Regional has continued its journey towards a more gender-equitable work environment. Regional exhibits a more balanced composition in junior management and management roles when compared to the global median of Regional Banks, and the total workforce compositions are equally balanced when compared to other organizations in Mexico.

These data insights of this recertification cycle and a renewed commitment from the organization to accelerate progress and reach new objectives in terms of DE&I, promise the organization’s commitment towards achieving a gender equitable workplace
