The organization is the first in the insurance industry in Chile to be EDGE certified

Zurich Insurance Chile – part of world leading insurance firm Zurich Insurance – is the first and only organization in Chile to reach EDGE Move level certification, having undergone a rigorous independent third-party assessment and verification on where it stands on gender equity in the workplace.

EDGE is the leading global assessment and business certification for gender and intersectional equity. EDGE Move level is the second level of certification which demonstrates an organization’s progress towards attaining workplace gender balance and gender equity.

The certification process involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organisation’s culture. Furthermore, as an integral part of the assessment, employees receive a comprehensive survey to assess perceptions of career development opportunities in the workplace.

Since being EDGE Assess level certified in 2019, Zurich Insurance Chile has made significant strides in strengthening the effectiveness of policies and practices in equal pay for equivalent work, flexible working, and organizational culture. The transparency of its promotion process and criteria had become far more robust and a specific policy on equal pay for equivalent work regardless of gender is now firmly in place. This allowed the organization to progress to the second level of EDGE Certification, EDGE Move level. The organization is also proactively managing pay equity, and currently shows no high-level risk associated with gender pay equity.

Zurich Insurance Chile has opportunities for improvement when it comes to the persistent gender gaps in perceptions, equal pay for equivalent work, same opportunities to be hired, and compatibility between career and family for women within the organization. Indeed, women are less optimistic and more pessimistic than men in these areas. However, the share of men and women who consider themselves to be given fairer opportunities in terms of promotion has substantially increased since company’s first certification at the EDGE Assess level.

Aniela Unguresan, founder of EDGE Certified Foundation, comments on the significance of Zurich Insurance Chile being an active leader in gender equity in the workplace: “Through it’s EDGE Move certification, Zurich Chile’s leadership team shows a visible and systematic commitment to achieving gender equity within the organization. Only when leaders recognize the need for change can an organization and its culture genuinely change to create a space for individual workplace experiences rather than stereotypical ones.

EDGE is the leading global assessment and business certification for gender and intersectional equity. EDGE Certification involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organization’s culture. As an integral part of the assessment, statistical data is analysed, policies and practices are reviewed and employees’ experiences of career development opportunities in the current workplace are accounted for.
