Launched in 1999, the DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEXES (DJSI) were the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The DJSI, jointly created by S&P Dow Jones Indices and SAM, combines the experience of an established index provider with the expertise of a specialist in sustainable investing to select the most sustainable companies from 61 sectors.

The EDGE methodology powers many of the questions in the annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) that forms the foundation for the DJSI. Specific EDGE questions appear in the following sections of the CSA:

  • Corporate Governance,
  • Labor Practice Indicators,
  • Talent Attraction & Retention,
  • Occupational Health & Safety.

S&P Global acquired the ESG Ratings Business from RobecoSAM in early 2020, which includes the widely followed CSA – an annual evaluation of companies’ sustainability practices.
